THE GREEN BOOK, Leahy's Hotel Guide and Railway Distance Maps of America, copyright January 1928. 16" by 10" green cloth-covered boards- wear to the cover and spine, front and back hinges broken, title page and last page loose, other pages bound but barely attached to the cover. Book lists the hotels of the town with the number of rooms of each, their rates per day and the population of the town. It includes the name of the railroads entering the town and where the town can be found on the map. Maps of each state are opposite the state lists of towns and hotels making it easy and convenient to refer from the one to the other. The maps give the railroad distance between towns. The Guide includes Index, explanation of Hotel listing, and explanatory map, the Provinces of Canada, as well as the United States. Maps printed without color. Pages are complete and apart from the loose 1st and last page, are in good condition. There is a hole on the top left corner of the cover that goes all the way through- I am guessing that this was so that the book could have a string through it and hang on a wall peg. I think that traveling salesmen and business travelers would have been the primary users of these yearly guides. Interesting to see the old hotel rates and how few hotels some of the little towns had available to travelers.
