This listing is for the new ICE PIRATE SABER model. Finally, a tip down for the large game fish. There has been interest from fishermen for this type of tip down. The SABER model has a robust reel for the largest of game fish, northern, musky, walleye, and bass. It also features the 100cm telescopic rod. A 20" shaft and a base, included with the unit. The Saber still features the fully adjustable pivot clip found on all models of Ice Pirate tip downs. Proper setting of the tip down is to have the rod in the upright position with the reel in the free spool setting ( button located on the reel handle ). When the fish strikes the bait the rod will go to the down position and will stay down, the line will pay out as needed. There is no need to hurry on Saber models since the reel is in free spool. The spool can hold a lot of line. Simply remove the tether if used, lift the pole and turn the handle, the reel will engage, set the hook, and let the fight begin. The big red round knob at the base of the handle is a functional adjustable drag system. the small red knob on the side of the reel is for minor drag on the reel while in the free spool set, just a touch is needed for line maintenance. The 120 degree pole tip angle should keep your average size bait from running out line, if not, add just a little spool drag with the small knob. Field testing this unit was a lot of fun, the thrill of fighting the fish on a rod and reel, compared to the hand over hand method like tip ups. I was using 20# fire line with wire leader and a treble hook. A line marker is still recommended. Ice pirate models are the cutting edge in tip down fishing. Ice pirate , since 1986
